Oh my, oh do we have here? I loved Bill and Ted as a kid, watched it a couple of times as 30yr old was still great. But this? We will try and forget it.
Hollywood, please, dudes. If you haven't made a sequel in 5-10 years, 15 tops, don't make it after 20-30 (or more. years. You lost your soul, your touch. You'll never be able to make classics again. Why? Because you're doing it for the money, not true fans. Let old classics be. And don't even dare to make Matrix 4. FRIENDS are going to be a disaster, too, btw. That's just the way you are now. See ya. This is where a marathon is essential.
Last year, for its 30th anniversary, I rewatched the first Bill & Ted for the first time in probably 25+ years. I loved it so much. I MEANT to rewatch what I recall was the better movie, the Bogus sequel, but never got around to it. It has to be just as long since I've seen that movie I loved back in the day.
But, present day: August 28, 2020, I purchased part three and: well, my rating MIGHT improve over time. I just wish I watched the first two back to back before this one. Throughout this entire viewing I had the nagging feeling I needed to catch up.
That said, OH MAN, Keanu as Ted and Alex Winter as Bill... 100% were their original characters. NEVER ONCE did I not see them as the same as before and that can't be easy to do. So, bravo to both of them. This is great acting.
Also, the movie was quite humorous at spots. Anywhere nearly as funny as the first? Nope. Not even close. Anywhere nearly as funny from what I remember of part 2. I do not believe. I truly loved part 2 when I was a teen and this, I did just like a bit.
Basically, they truly attempt to recap and bring new viewers in by restating the original two movie's storylines for a good chunk of this third film which is about 30 years since the last chapter. (STILL - I think it would be best to watch as a trilogy marathon.) And it's about the same time frame - they say 25 years, but who's counting, in this timeline.
So, 25 years later, it's revealed Bill & Ted have just over an hour to complete a song to save the universe as we know it. (But, don't get used to that time frame deadline, trust me.) So, Bill & Ted begin their time jumps to get a song together while their daughters and Princesses have their own respective adventures through the cosmos.
I'm trying to be as vague as possible for no spoilers, but suffice to say, it's a complicated story and should this "Universe." But at the same time, it's well written enough to get the gist and enjoy yourselves.
The best takeaway I had from this was how incredible it was to see Keanu back as Ted - 100% like he's been doing it his whole life. Funny, I used to critique his acting, and he's never been a great actor, but the way I saw him from 30+ years ago, I was rather impressed. Alex, too. Both of them.
Plus, again, it was funny and love the originals coming back - ESPECIALLY the always LOVABLE "Death." He's the reason I loved Bogus 10x more than Excellent back in the day. He stole every scene in part two and my heart - for how much I loved the character. Here, he made me just a giddy to see him all over again. And yes, to me, he did steal every scene once again.
Recommended. Could do no harm to the series and may invite new viewers to appreciate the series for the first time.
. br> Final thoughts: Oh, and I couldn't finish this without pointing out the obvious Death Ver. 2.0, Dennis Caleb McCoy. He rocked and had me rolling in laughter than any other character in the movie.
